PROGRESSION OF Parkinson´s disease (PD)

Parkinson's disease is a condition for which currently there is no cure. Symptoms advance from early to moderate to advanced stages. Along the way, there are many treatments that may help you, and your symptoms may be managed at different times by different medications.

Symptoms may include slowness, tremors, rigid limbs and trunk; decreased manual dexterity, difficulty walking, freezing and muscle stiffness.

When a patient is treated with carbidopa/levodopa, symptoms may reemerge before the next scheduled dose. This is called symptom reemergence due to "wearing-off." Many people with Parkinson's disease may ignore a return of their symptoms due to "wearing-off." If you experience this, talk to your health care professional (HCP).

Medication and communication

Medication can help manage symptoms of PD, and there are different medications for different types of symptoms. As PD progresses, your treatment may be modified with them. Your HCP can change the dosage of your medication—even change to a different medication—as symptoms advance.

Inform your HCP if you notice symptom reemergence. This may be due to medication "wearing-off," and it may mean it's time to adjust or change your medication. Consult your HCP before making any change to your medication regimen.

Consistent communication with HCPs is essential for managing symptoms as they surface. If you experience symptom reemergence due to "wearing off" while taking carbidopa/levodopa, STALEVO may be the right medication to help manage your symptoms.
